If you are living with:
- Couple conflict, parent/child conflict
- Recurring use of violence/anger
- The impact of sexual or physical abuse
- Supporting someone who has experienced abuse
- Anxiety, fears, worries or depression
- Concerns about your child’s moods or behaviour
then, a consultation could be very helpful. Families I have worked with tell me that the consultation process helps them to:
- have with more choice about how to respond to problems, and a greater sense of control and direction
- re-connect with themselves and the people they care about, with less influence from the problem
- a greater sense of who supports them in their efforts
- and most importantly, a different story about themselves, their abilities and their family
How A Consultation Is Done
Before the consultation we will have a half-hour phone call, which takes place free of charge. This will help us decide if we can work well together.
To schedule this free initial call, leave me a message at 416 878-7114, with a number and time that would be convenient for you. I will get back to you right away.
During the phone call I will answer any questions you may have about the process. You will decide who should be at our first meeting, and begin to define the problem that you want to focus on.
I will ask you to fill out a short consultation form before our meeting either by email or in person before we meet. This will help to make the time we spend together as productive as possible.
During the consultation
Consultation with me is a focused, solution-building process that will help you define how problems are getting in the way of your life and steps you can take to get back on track. It is my job to ask thought provoking and action stimulating questions, and together we come up with next steps that you can live with. Very often, even thinking differently about a problem will help you get closer to your valued way of living.
During our meeting, I will ask you if the conversation is useful, and if we are moving in the right direction. We will make notes together, and work for one hour to develop some useful next steps. At the end of the hour, you will decide whether or not to plan another meeting, and how soon you would like that to happen. You will keep a copy of the notes made during our session for your own use.
After the consultation
You are welcome to call at any point for a further meeting if one is not already arranged. There is no expectation of a weekly commitment, and there is no set number of meetings required for service. These decisions are up to you.
Location and times
Meetings are scheduled at mutually convenient times, including weekend and evening appointments. The location is the Leaside Therapy Centre at 1395 Bayview Avenue. There is street parking available, and it is easy to get here by bus: from the Davisville station on the Yonge Street Line, take the number 11 Bayview. Get off at the first stop before the bus turns onto Bayview, and walk south one block.
Unfortunately, the Centre is not wheelchair accessible.
Fees
Consultations are one hour long, and the fee is ninety-five ($95.00) dollars, payable in cash or by personal cheque at the end of each consultation. Payment by post-dated cheques is accepted for families who require this flexibility. Receipts are given and may be used for tax purposes, or where accepted by insurance coverage. This service is not covered by OHIP.
