I am currently accepting referrals and would be happy to answer your questions if you are considering exploring counselling and making a lifestyle change.
Individual counselling to address:
- Making lifestyle/behavioural changes
- Relationship issues
- Women’s issues
- Addiction and Mental Health:
- Substance use, including a focus on coping strategies, relapse prevention
- The recovery process, finding hope and meaning
- Addressing stigma and recovery
- Supporting a significant other (partner, child, parent) in your life around addiction and mental health issues, while taking care of yourself
- Navigating the treatment system for yourself or a significant other
- Parenting issues, particularly in relation to substance use and recovery
During counselling, you may decide to invite significant others to session(s) to help them understand and support you in this process.
Counselling for Substance use issues:
Together, we will explore your triggers, your coping strategies, relapse prevention strategies, and your goals, hopes and fears. You may be asked to observe your cravings (thoughts and feelings) related to substance use, and work on developing/using alternative coping strategies. People often cope with negative feelings and conflict by using. We will address your values, and your vision for a meaningful recovery process. Slips are part of the process. Some may want abstinence and others may be seeking harm reduction goals.
Counselling to support family members concerned about a significant other’s substance use:
The focus of this counseling is to support the concerned person. Based on your needs and using a motivational interviewing approach, this counselling addresses your self-care and boundaries, issues of coping with stigma and navigating the treatment system. In addition, we can work on how you may support the person who is using to make change in a non–confrontational style, while working on taking care of yourself.
